Year Program Guide

LIS 519 Youth Programming

ALSC Competencies III, VI

In youth programming, we discussed the different kinds of library programs that would be appropriate for every age group from birth to 18 years old. We went through how to create a program, from budgeting to planning to what materials are needed. We also got to try out different crafts and projects at home. I really enjoyed learning about the different kinds of programming that would be most effective for each age group from a developmental standpoint. I have experience creating a lot of different programs for children and young adults, but I didn’t have the technical knowledge to go from. Taking this class helped me learn to develop programs for patrons that cultivate learning and helped me learn how to effectively prep a lot of programs at once. I am including my program guide for this class because I think that creating this guide has been one of the most informative experiences that I’ve had in this program. This class taught me about how to use library resources effectively to plan programs that would be fun and engaging.
