January: Linocut Printing

Linocut printing is an easy way to apply a design more than once. The goal of this program is to educate teens about linocut printing, how to make a stamp, and how to learn more about linocut printing. This would appeal to teens who love art and might not have had experience with linocut before. I would host the program at the beginning of the year, that way kids can have tote bags that they can bring to the library all year round.

Details

Audience: Teens

Popular Topics: Arts and Crafts

Theme/Subjects:

  • Printmaking

  • Arts and Crafts

Total Budget: $137.10

  • It should take about an hour to prep and plan for the program. I would be doing a demonstration of how to make a stamp out of the eraser during the program. I’m anticipating a group of 10 patrons attending.

    ONLINE RESOURCES:

I am following the tutorial from https://www.artbarblog.com/mushroom-block-printing-with-styrofoam/

(I am subbing out styrofoam with erasers and carving tools, but the article describes a more cost-effective method to achieve a similar result, so in the case of a smaller budget this program can be carried out that way.)

    1. Arrange tables so that there are 5 tables of two seats each.

    2. Set out materials.

      1.  Each patron gets:

        1. 1 tote bag

        2. 1 paper plate

        3. 2 erasers

    3. Participants will share:

      1. Paints

      2. Rollers

      3. Carving tools

  • I will market this program by making a Canva flyer and putting it on our social media platforms. In my personal experience, our programs have found the most success with instagram.

    See attachments for marketing flyer.
