November: Knitting Potholders
This is a great program to teach the basics of knitting such as casting on, basic knitting and purling, and casting off. The goal is to have every participant end up with their own potholder. Knitting is a really great and versatile skill that can be applied in a lot of different ways. I would love to do this program along with other DIY decoration projects and fiber arts skills like crocheting and embroidering. Each participant would get their own skein of yarn and pair of knitting needles to practice with.

I would actually use the same YouTube video tutorials I found to teach myself how to knit. I used the YouTube channel Sheep and Stitch to learn all of these techniques, and I think that playing the videos for the participants would be a great way for them to learn as well.

I would market this using a flyer on display in the library, but I would also bring in all of the clothes and items that I have knitted previously, which I think would spark interest and curiosity and make teens want to attend.

Program Execution:
Play the casting on video, pausing occasionally to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Instruct everyone that they are going to keep repeating the knit stitch until their potholder is about 6 inches in length.
